How to Update Your LinkedIn Headline

by K B , updated on January 13, 2022

Have you updated your LinkedIn headline?

If not yet, you need to do it now.

“But why is the headline important, Karalyn?” I hear you say.

Well, it’s one of the most visible sections of your LinkedIn profile and it can help you be found by recruiters easily.

So, I’ll be teaching you the step-by-step guide on how to update your headline.

And a ninja tip to make it really stand out!

How to Edit Your LinkedIn Headline

When you log into LinkedIn, it normally takes you to the home page.

You can see that you’re on your feed in the URL.

To update your headline, click the “Me” button on the upper right-hand corner then click on “View Profile”.

Once you’re on your profile, click on the pencil icon.

You can see that LinkedIn normally defaults your headline to your current role.

You can delete or edit that by clicking on the text box.

You can type in or paste a headline that you have written previously then click Save.

Now, you see that there are pipes or vertical bars (|) to separate keywords and key phrases. This is a neat way to make sections stand out.

You can also put in symbols, use bold, or italics.

I’m going to give you a little ninja tip on how to do that!

How to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Headline Stand Out

There’s this site called Unicode Mapper.

It allows you to put bold, italic, and all sorts of font effects to your LinkedIn headline.

But just be aware if you’re using any sort of effect, it does actually take up more characters. So, you’ll have fewer spaces for words.

Simply copy the words in the headline where you want to change the font and change the appearance and paste them in the Unicode Mapper.

You can see in the image below that it mapped it to all sorts of fonts or appearances.

You want something simple because the words “Financial Controller” in Output Script or Output Farftur can’t be read on those fonts.

You want it to be quite clear and readable.

Normally, I use Output Sans-Bold or Output Sans-Bold-Italic.

You can copy the formatted text and paste it into your headline, then save.

Now, you can see you’ve got a great bold effect on the LinkedIn headline:

So that’s how you make your headline really stand out!

I hope you found this tremendously useful.
