How to beat the applicant tracking system.

This, by a long mile, is the biggest question we get on resumes.

What do you do to beat the bots and make sure your hard crafted CV gets actual eyeballs on it.

The majority of large employers and recruitment consultants use an applicant tracking system.

They use them to screen the deluge of applicants they suspect will apply for a role – using an algorithm dividing strong applicants from the weak – saving them time and money.

Most systems are also designed to track the outcome of your application, in terms of providing data to the recruiter to measure the efficiency of their recruitment process.

Some experts assert that over 75% resumes never actually hit human eyes.

How do application tracking systems actually work?

We all know a mentor can help with you securing more money, finding a new job, getting a promotion, or your overall happiness in your career and life.

Plus much much more….

So why doesn’t everyone have one?

For me, when I was struggling in my corporate role, it never occurred to me to seek one out.

I think it was because innately I thought only people who had reached a certain level of success had one and I never understood the benefits of it. I suspect I was fearful my mentor would easily discover that I was not worthy of their time.

I now see the irony in that statement.

Imposter syndrome at it’s best.

The bottom line is people achieve more success with mentors, and it is only when you have one, do you realise the benefits of it.

I don’t think I am alone in the belief system I held. So today we’re lifting up the curtains on the role of mentors and asking Jon Hollenberg – owner of Five by Five Design, and successful business owner, about the role of mentors in his life.

So it’s #FriYay.

It’s #FunDay.

It’s #AskUsAnythingYouWantDay!

If you watch our #CareerCarePackage regularly, you know the drill.

But if you don’t here’s what happens.

Today’s the day where you can ask us anything you want about your job search.

Aaaaaannnndd – you can join us live on the show if you wish, and get your questions asked.

Yep.

Controversial claim I know – and certainly an assertion that flies contrary to where we intuitively seek security at this time.

But today on #CareerCarePackage we’re meeting Futurist and Keynote Speaker – Steve Sammartino.

Steve regularly talks on the future of work, and how you can set yourself up to thrive, not just survive during these times.

Check out his TedX talk – “Outgrow your career. What pizza taught me about career reinvention?”

Steve suggests we are all born entrepreneurial and that we lose this by the time we’re ten years old.

So, here’s what we’re going to ask him:

One of the biggest joys in running these LinkedIn Lives #CareerCarePackage is bringing you fascinating people from around the world.

This session is no different.

Meet Vikram Poddar. He’s the Founder of BoredRoom Comedy. He’s the comedian who helps HR managers and the like engage their teams with “customised and clean comedy solutions.”

At least that’s what his LinkedIn profile says.

You’ll also see on his profile that he changed his career from investment banking to comedy which in my mind looks something like this.

We’re talking to Vikram about what it really takes to succeed in two intensely competitive industries at the opposite end of the employment spectrum, how he made the transition and what he learned about himself along the way.

Ever been offered a job and felt for some reason it was the wrong choice?

Maybe you started and did not feel welcome.

If you’re like me in this scenario you think it might be something you were doing.

However.

Here’s the kicker.

Chances are it’s not.

Chances are what you’re experiencing is adding up to the sum total of a number of small missteps or mistakes an employer is making around recruiting you and settling you in –  which means among other things, you don’t feel accepted or like you belong.

Today we’re talking on employee attachment with Anthony Sork.

Anthony is an expert on employee attachment and detachment. He has developed the employee attachment inventory – an instrument that measures your perceptions of security, trust and value, acceptance and belonging, that’s now used by many tier-1 corporations and government bodies.

He’s going to break down what could be going wrong, when for example, you feel like you don’t belong.
