We all know a mentor can help with you securing more money, finding a new job, getting a promotion, or your overall happiness in your career and life.
Plus much much more….
So why doesn’t everyone have one?
For me, when I was struggling in my corporate role, it never occurred to me to seek one out.
I think it was because innately I thought only people who had reached a certain level of success had one and I never understood the benefits of it. I suspect I was fearful my mentor would easily discover that I was not worthy of their time.
I now see the irony in that statement.
Imposter syndrome at it’s best.
The bottom line is people achieve more success with mentors, and it is only when you have one, do you realise the benefits of it.
I don’t think I am alone in the belief system I held. So today we’re lifting up the curtains on the role of mentors and asking Jon Hollenberg – owner of Five by Five Design, and successful business owner, about the role of mentors in his life.
We’ll be covering:
- What benefits has he received from his mentors?
- How do you ask someone to be your mentor?
- How do you set up a successful relationship?
- I assume a lot of the value is intangible at first – how do you determine if it is beneficial?
- Why would anyone want to be a mentor?
- Is there a difference between a mentor and a coach?
- Can you have different mentors for different purposes?
