How to be more confident in job interviews.

by K B , updated on November 1, 2020

superman Do you have a job interview coming up that you’re worried about?

If you have no time to read the rest of the advice on this blog, then I strongly suggest that you check out this amazing TED talk.

It’s by Social Psychologist, Amy Cuddy.

Amy shows how “power posing” like Wonder Woman and Superman can actually increase our confidence, even when we don’t feel it.

She cites research that her team conducted simulating really tough job interviews.

The candidates who did the “power posing” (before!) the job interview, were rated much more highly compared to the people who did not.

So before your next interview, watch this Ted talk.

Instead of staring down at your notes or into your phone, strike the Wonder Woman or Superman pose. (Privately of course, or the receptionist may call security)

Come back and tell me how you went. I’d love to know.

And if you know anyone who would benefit from seeing this video, I’d love you to share this post.

Karalyn, I’m so glad you posted this! It’s one of my favorite tips for job seekers and I tell everyone I know about it. I saw this TED talk last fall for the first time. I was so impressed I immediately implemented it. I made sure to arrive at my interview 10 to 15 minutes early, then I would go to the ladies room and strike the Wonder Woman pose in the stall for 2 minutes. The men could certainly call it the Superman pose! I tried it out out at the two companies with whom I was interviewing at the time. I received an offer from both companies! The offer I accepted is my dream job at my top target company. I had two interviews with my current company and used the pose both times. I would call this a resounding success! Everyone should try this. What have you got to lose?

Really an nice article, i used to practice this from before but now it is been published as an article, it really works out, i cracked all the interviews cos my confident level was high and that was possible only when i used to see Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight or Batman Begins,
” To master someone, one has to master himself”, “What do you fear?” “WILL TO ACT”, these some inspiring words will really trigger you to motivate!

Thank you Karalyn, watching the video has made me aware of not succumbing to feelings of rejection from failed job applications and to keep my confidence level up. In itself that is difficult as job rejections hammer one’s self confidence to pulp and I still shed a tear when I receive one if those emails. So Thank You.
