LinkedIn Live Career Care Package # 77 Promotion? Salary? Career change? Overcoming imposter syndrome, so you can play a bigger game.

Imposter syndrome, eh?

This syndrome is one of the most insidious.

Why so?

a) Because we often don’t know we have it.

b) Because without knowing we have it – having it stops us from trying stuff.

c) It’s a daily battle for many of us even if we know we have it, to get over it.

d) When we realise we suffer from it, we realise how many opportunities we’ve talked ourselves out of, or inadvertently, not even aimed towards.

If you’re wondering what I’m talking about here’s a little example.

When we talked about the benefits of getting a mentor with Jon Hollenberg this week,  I realised how badly I had imposter syndrome when I wanted to leave the corporate world. Back then I should have sought out a mentor, but didn’t.

One of the underlying reasons was I never thought I was good enough and would be wasting a mentor’s time.

Imposter syndrome stops us applying for jobs we’re qualified for – as it never occurs to us we should.

It stops us asking for more money or a new opportunity.

It even stops us seeking help that would benefit us.

So today we’re tackling this topic head on with our special guest on #CareerCarePackage.

Meet Chandell Labbozzetta.

Chandell is the CoFounder of Life Puzzle a consultancy helping managers become vibrant, successful and fulfilled in every aspect of their lives.

We’re going to ask her:

  • What is imposter syndrome?
  • Where does it come from in people’s lives?
  • How does it typically play out in people’s careers?
  • What are some tips people could apply right now to overcome it?
  • Is it normal to struggle with this daily?
  • How can you feel the fear and do it anyway when it comes to feeling like an imposter?
  • How to overcome imposter syndrome on the job hunt?

So join us today for an insightful discussion, because I can pretty much guarantee that if you don’t think you suffer from imposter syndrome – you probably do!
