Yes, it’s time to talk and take this topic seriously.

Because I have seen instances where a seriously good cover letter has gotten my clients over the line.

And, to be honest – times where it’s made no difference at all.

But I still say, write them, and write them well!

So why am I giving you this cover letter advice?

Here are my tips.

In writing your cover letter, you’re clarifying in your mind the reasons this employer should hire you – which is such terrific interview preparation!

In this session of Career Care Package – we’re livestreaming with real-life examples of interview-winning cover letters.

We’re going to break down what works and what does not work, and give you great tips and advice.

This is the episode where we meet the Co-Founder of the School of Hard Knock Knocks and a whole lot of other businesses along the way.

Meet Morry Morgan.

(Anyone who’s come up with a business name like that, wins big tickets in my book)

But all in all Morry is a wisecracking entrepreneur and angel investor who’s enjoyed a global career that’s spanned Scotland, Australia and China.

So we’re talking to him about career happenstance and the part it has played in his career.

What is happenstance I hear you ask?

I like to think this word is an amalgamation of happy-circumstances.

But the official theory runs like this:

“…it’s OK to not always plan, because unplanned events could lead to good careers. At the core of this theory is the fact that unpredictable social factors, chance events and environmental factors are important influences on clients’ lives.”

So rather than developing a strict plan for a goal that’s set in concrete, instead you work with a vague idea – do some positive things in the right direction, being curious about how these things make you feel, just by being active, great things will happen.

Hence happy circumstances!

We’re going to ask Morry about how he’s engineered (if that’s the right term) the happy good fortune he’s enjoyed in his career.

Here’s how you can join us.

We all know we should take breaks.

We all know how powerful and transformative these breaks can be.

Remember Laura Waters who took the trek from one end of NZ to the other.

She was suffering from anxiety and burn out.

So she took the 5-month journey and came out stress-free and with a totally new career as a travel writer.

Your job search can be a mish mass of messy emotions.

Try saying that 10 times fast!

Our success can depend on many things.

How we see ourselves and how others see us, how we present with our resumes or LinkedIn profiles, the strength of our networks and how we bounce back from failure or setbacks.

We’re meeting Karen Thompson, the Founder of Communicate U on Career Care Package.

Karen helps people build confidence and courage and find their voice to connect with their audience and amplify their personal brand.

Karen must be a communication expert because she’s crafted a handy way of remembering the ideas I have identified above into the 4 R’s of career success: Resume, Reputation, Relationship and Resilience.

I can’t wait to unpack these themes with Karen.

A wise woman once said – everything you write on a resume needs to earn it’s place there.

So we’re talking on #CareerCarePackage on how to make a resume stand out.

I totally agree with that wise woman.

Repeat after me.

A stand out resume has……

No fluff.

No exaggerated claims.

No weasel waffle.

That’s why today in an extra bonus session of #CareerCarePackage we’re welcoming Matt Warzel from MJW Careers.

Matt’s been writing resumes and providing job search coaching since 2003.

Matt comes to us all the way from North Carolina at the very special time of 10pm, Melbourne time which is 8am in Wilmington where Matt’s located.

We’re talking on how to make a great resume.

Now US resumes tend to be snappier and more to the point than Aussie resumes – and that’s exactly why we’re talking to Matt.

Because we figure in today’s world where recruiters will be inundated with the sheer volume of what’s coming in, you getting to the important point faster has to be a big bonus.

Here’s a taste of what we’re asking Matt:
