So here’s the big thing.
Type “tell me about yourself” into YouTube and you’ll see 100’s of videos on how to answer this question.
What’s worse is each coach will tell you their way is the best way.
Because I am kind, and always helpful, I thought I’d do something different.
Instead of me telling you what to do, I personally tried a couple of ways of answering “tell me about yourself” so you don’t have to.
I’m not just GIVING you a way to answer this question, and leaving it at that, I’m showing you how well this way REALLY works by running my answer by expert communications coach and Founder of Communicate U, Karen Thompson.
I figured it was close to a real life interview simulation as I could do.
(Karen had written a blog post with a simple framework to try, so I used that)
And yes I was totally surprised by what she said.
Which all goes to show how important it is to get good feedback on your interview and communication skills. Like me you may well have been doing something that could blow away your chances within the first 20 seconds.
I’d love to see you try out this framework, so let me know how you go in the comments below.
