Blueprint for a New Career

by Richard , updated on November 1, 2020

The Australian Blueprint for Career Development is a framework developed to assist young people and adults to design, implement and evaluate their career development strategies.

The Australian Blueprint for Career Development: re-shape your career.

The Blueprint is based on a Canadian model and identifies skills, attitudes and knowledge that individuals need to manage their life, learning and work roles.

Primarily its uptake has been most prolific in the Australian school system with many parents finding it particularly useful with their high school children. However it’s just as useful for adults wanting to re-shape their careers in the 21st century.

How can the Australian Blueprint for Career Development help?

Although it’s been designed to be used by career development professionals and employment service providers, the Blueprint toolkit includes useful information and tools for individuals.

This includes 11 critical competencies necessary to promote career development, lifelong learning and a healthy work/life balance. These competencies are linked to 4 phases of competency which can be tailored to suit an individual’s stage of development; typically from primary school to adulthood.

These phases of competency are based upon a learning system of acquiring, applying and personalising the learning; and then critically taking action upon the new understanding or skill.

The toolkit includes some great case studies which demonstrate how the Blueprint has been directly applied by organisations working with both children and adults.

There are also some useful links, including a link to myfuture and its series of YouTube occupation videos.

We’d be interested to know what you think.

Have you (or your children) had any personal experience with the Australian Blueprint for Career Development?
