One of my biggest takes after attending the #SOSUAU sourcing summit last week was just how important an online presence is.
We had some wonderful speakers who talked about the tools and technology they used to find hidden talent. (More on this in another blog post)
So if you’re passively or actively looking for a job, you simply cannot afford to ignore the power of LinkedIn. Â There are now 5 million Australians on the site which represents over 80% of the professional population.
Here’s the thing though.
While people have LinkedIn profiles, not so many people appear to use it to its fullest potential.
We dug into a sample of 200 profiles and found that only 25% of people had a summary section that clearly expressed who they were and why someone should connect or do business with them. Even fewer had updated their status to offer something of value to their audience.
Knowing that headhunters trawl LinkedIn and knowing that if you’re in business you will be checked out getting this part of your online presence in order should be a no brainer. In fact if you do, if my numbers are correct, you’ll be ahead of 75% of people.
So I am running a LinkedIn master class this Wednesday, 20/11 in the Sydney CBD – from 12pm.
It covers:
– How to create a unique and remarkable LinkedIn profile that highlights your best professional assets – and hands-on help to produce yours
– How to optimize your profile so you’ll be found in searches (less work for you)
– How to build up a network when you don’t know where to start
– How to reach out to people to create job or business opportunities for yourself
The reason I am running this workshop is that I want to help one of my AMES Skillmax students start a career in training. He’s only recently arrived as a skilled migrant and would like to build a business here to help other new arrivals. I’d like to support him. Check out more about the wonderful AMES Skillmax course here.
We need to find 6 more people to make this workshop happen.
(The reason I have left this promotion late is that I have been really busy)
It will be a small hands-on class. It’s $200 and runs for 4 hours from 12pm. Given what you can pay and given what you’ll get out of this, it represents enormous value.
Email me karalyn@interviewiq.com.au for more details. I need to know by midday Monday.
PS – I speak from the experience of someone who has done this, and who has trained many others as well. I am a mad advocate of LinkedIn as using it has helped me personally create a brand from zero to global two years ago, to having a international audience, never having to advertise and being recognized as an expert in global media, including recently the BBC.
I’d love to see you there. Come along.
